Meet Uni, the 7-year old Shiba, and Halo the 6-year-old Toy Poodle. I’m Meme and 3 of us live in Tokyo.

Uni was diagnosed with glaucoma recently, and her vision is quickly deteriorating. I’m determined to love, care for and spend my life with Uni and Halo for as long as I can, and as I watch her fight the excruciating pain, the fear and the side effects from her medication every day, I’ve made a decision. I’ve decided to share something about myself and ask for your help. I’m also fighting – I have vasospastic angina, bronchial asthma and migraine. I’m also fighting for our home - I’m going through an agonizing divorce mediation process and my husband is threatening to evict me. It’s a daunting challenge to live with my illnesses and Uni’s condition. Though I so wish I could, I can’t just smile and post happy photos any more.

Uni underwent several high-risk procedures like anterior chamber paracentesis. To take a chance and prolong what’s left of her vision, she also had a glaucoma valve implant. There’s no cure, and the best I can do is to save her sight for a year at most. It’s a leap of faith so she can continue to run for just a little longer.

She’s a brave girl and responding well to the treatment so far. But, all these procedures and maintenance are beyond my means. Between caring for Uni and my illnesses, it’s very difficult to earn enough to cover for everything. We’re lucky to have friends who proposed raising money to pay at least Uni’s medical costs.
